Pronouns B1
Spanish keeps stressed pronouns (mí, ti, él, ella, usted) and unstressed ones (me, te, le, nos, os, les) in the same sentence. The unstressed form always comes first and cannot be dropped.
Pronouns — Subject, object, possessive, demonstrative and relative pronouns.
The stressed pronoun carries emphasis or clears ambiguity; the unstressed pronoun is obligatory: A mí me gusta el cine. A él le dieron el premio. The unstressed form always precedes the verb.
A mí me gusta el cine। A él le dieron el premio।
The a + stressed pronoun is optional, the unstressed pronoun is not.
A mí me encanta el cine. (I love cinema.) A él le pidieron disculpas. (They apologised to him.) A nosotros nos tocó esperar. (It fell to us to wait.)
A mí me encanta el cine। A él le pidieron disculpas। A nosotros nos tocó esperar।
A learner writes *A mí gusta el cine and leaves out me. The unstressed pronoun cannot be omitted even when a mí is present: A mí me gusta el cine.
शिक्षार्थी *A mí gusta el cine लिखता है और me छोड़ देता है। A mí me gusta el cine।
With con the forms merge: conmigo, contigo, not con mí, con ti. Only mí and ti are special this way; the rest behave normally: con él, con nosotros.
