Spanish has several verbs for "to become": ponerse, volverse, hacerse, llegar a ser, convertirse en. Each names a different kind of change, from a passing mood to a lasting identity.
Verbs & Conjugation — Verb groups, stem changes, the passe compose and irregular verbs.
ponerse + adjective = temporary state (Se puso triste). volverse + adjective = involuntary and lasting (Se volvió loco). hacerse + noun/profession = deliberate (Se hizo médico). llegar a ser = a reached goal. convertirse en = a transformation.
ponerse + विशेषण = अस्थायी अवस्था (Se puso triste)। volverse + विशेषण = अनैच्छिक और स्थायी (Se volvió loco)। hacerse + संज्ञा/पेशा = जानबूझकर (Se hizo médico)। llegar a ser = प्राप्त लक्ष्य। convertirse en = रूपांतरण।
ponerse (minutes) → volverse (years, involuntary) → hacerse (a choice) → llegar a ser (a goal) → convertirse en (a full transformation: El pueblo se convirtió en ciudad).
ponerse (क्षणभर) → volverse (वर्षों, अनैच्छिक) → hacerse (चुनाव) → llegar a ser (लक्ष्य) → convertirse en (पूर्ण रूपांतरण: El pueblo se convirtió en ciudad)।
Se puso nervioso antes del examen. (He got nervous before the exam.) Se hizo famoso muy joven. (He became famous very young.) Se convirtió en leyenda. (He became a legend.)

A learner writes *Se puso médico. For a profession or an effort we use hacerse: Se hizo médico. ponerse is only for temporary states and emotions.
शिक्षार्थी *Se puso médico लिखता है। पेशे या प्रयास के लिए hacerse चाहिए: Se hizo médico। ponerse केवल अस्थायी अवस्थाओं और भावनाओं के लिए है।
Ask how long the change lasts and whether it was chosen. A passing mood is ponerse; a lasting, unwanted trait is volverse; a deliberate identity is hacerse.
