The imperfect and pluperfect subjunctive let a wish, a doubt or an emotion sit in the past: Quería que vinieras, dudaba que hubiera venido. They are the mood of everything reported, felt or imagined in the past.

Imperfect subjunctive: hablara/hablase, comiera/comiese. Pluperfect subjunctive: hubiera/hubiese hablado. The -ra and -se forms are interchangeable; -ra dominates speech, -se survives in writing and some regions.
अपूर्ण subjuntivo: hablara/hablase, comiera/comiese। अतिपूर्ण subjuntivo: hubiera/hubiese hablado। -ra और -se रूप विनिमेय; -रा बोलचाल में प्रमुख, -se लेखन और कुछ क्षेत्रों में।
When the main verb is past, the subjunctive also moves to the past: Quiero que vengas → Quería que vinieras. Espero que esté → Esperaba que estuviera. The backshift is automatic and never optional.
मुख्य क्रिया भूत हो तो subjuntivo भी भूत में जाता है: Quiero que vengas → Quería que vinieras। Espero que esté → Esperaba que estuviera। खिसकाव स्वतः और अनिवार्य है।
Me pidió que le llamara. (He asked me to call him.) No creía que fuera posible. (I did not believe it was possible.) Habría preferido que no hubieras dicho nada.

A learner says *Quería que vengas. When the main verb is past, the present subjunctive is a tense clash: Quería que vinieras. This is one of the clearest C1 errors.
शिक्षार्थी *Quería que vengas बोलता है। मुख्य क्रिया भूत होने पर वर्तमान subjuntivo काल-टकराव है: Quería que vinieras। यह C1 की सबसे साफ़ गलतियों में से है।
C1 writing and oral tasks expect control of the sequence: a past trigger followed by a past subjunctive. Two clean examples in an essay prove the candidate is at level.
