Tenses & Aspect A2
The imperfect describes the past as a scene: what used to happen, what was going on, how things were. It is the tense of description, habit and background, not of finished events.
Tenses & Aspect — Present, passe compose, imparfait, futur and the moods.
Use it for habitual past actions (Cuando era niño, jugaba al fútbol.), for background description (Hacía sol.), and for actions in progress (Mientras leía, ...). The event itself is not finished or framed; the past is shown as a picture.
इसे आदतन भूत क्रियाओं (Cuando era niño, jugaba al fútbol.), पृष्ठभूमि वर्णन (Hacía sol.) और जारी क्रियाओं (Mientras leía, ...) के लिए लें। घटना खुद पूरी या सीमित नहीं होती; भूत चित्र की तरह दिखता है।
-ar verbs: -aba, -abas, -aba, -ábamos, -abais, -aban (hablaba). -er and -ir verbs: -ía, -ías, -ía, -íamos, -íais, -ían (comía, vivía). Only three verbs are irregular: ser (era), ir (iba), ver (veía).
-ar क्रियाएँ: -aba, -abas, -aba, -ábamos, -abais, -aban (hablaba)। -er और -ir क्रियाएँ: -ía, -ías, -ía, -íamos, -íais, -ían (comía, vivía)। केवल तीन क्रियाएँ अनियमित: ser (era), ir (iba), ver (veía)।
Cuando era pequeño, vivía en Sevilla. (When I was little, I lived in Seville.) Todos los veranos íbamos a la playa. (Every summer we used to go to the beach.) Mientras comíamos, empezó a llover. (While we were eating, it began to rain.)
Cuando era pequeño, vivía en Sevilla। (जब मैं छोटा था, सेविला में रहता था।) Todos los veranos íbamos a la playa। (हर गर्मी हम समुद्र तट जाते थे।) Mientras comíamos, empezó a llover। (जब हम खा रहे थे, बारिश शुरू हुई।)
A learner says *Todos los veranos fuimos (a single event) when the meaning is a repeated habit. Habit and description need the imperfect: Todos los veranos íbamos. The choice is meaning, not politeness.
शिक्षार्थी *Todos los veranos fuimos (एक घटना) बोलता है जबकि अर्थ दोहराई गई आदत है। आदत और वर्णन के लिए imperfecto चाहिए: Todos los veranos íbamos। चुनाव अर्थ का है, शिष्टाचार का नहीं।
If English would say "was doing" or "used to do", the Spanish is the imperfect. If English would say "did" once and finished, it is the preterite.
अंग्रेज़ी "was doing" या "used to do" कहे तो स्पैनिश में imperfecto। अंग्रेज़ी एक बार "did" और खत्म कहे तो preterite।
