Lección

el and la for "the"

Use el before a masculine noun and la before a feminine one. El libro (the book), la mesa (the table). When the noun is plural, use los and las: los libros, las mesas.

पुल्लिंग संज्ञा से पहले el और स्त्रीलिंग से पहले la लें। El libro (किताब), la mesa (मेज़)। संज्ञा बहुवचन हो तो los और las लें: los libros, las mesas।

un and una for "a / an"

Use un before a masculine noun and una before a feminine one. Un perro (a dog), una casa (a house). In the plural, use unos and unas: unos perros, unas casas.

पुल्लिंग संज्ञा से पहले un और स्त्रीलिंग से पहले una लें। Un perro (एक कुत्ता), una casa (एक घर)। बहुवचन में unos और unas लें: unos perros, unas casas।

Choosing the right article

First decide the gender of the noun (el/la or un/una). Then decide whether you mean "the" (specific) or "a/an" (any). El perro = the dog (that one). Un perro = a dog (any dog).

पहले संज्ञा का लिंग तय करें (el/la या un/una)। फिर तय करें कि "the" (विशिष्ट) या "a/an" (कोई भी)। El perro = the dog (वह कुत्ता)। Un perro = a dog (कोई कुत्ता)।

Articles in a sentence

Tengo un libro interesante. (I have an interesting book.) La casa es grande. (The house is big.) Compro unas manzanas. (I buy some apples.) The article changes with the gender and number every time.

Tengo un libro interesante। (मेरे पास एक दिलचस्प किताब है।) La casa es grande। (घर बड़ा है।) Compro unas manzanas। (मैं कुछ सेब खरीदता हूँ।) लेख हर बार लिंग और संख्या से बदलता है।

Using "un" for a feminine noun

An English speaker says "un casa" because English has no gender. In Spanish it is una casa — the article must match the noun, not the meaning. The same happens with "el problema" (masculine) and "la mano" (feminine).

अंग्रेज़ी बोलने वाला "un casa" बोलता है क्योंकि अंग्रेज़ी में लिंग नहीं होता। स्पैनिश में या una casa — लेख संज्ञा से मेल खाना चाहिए, अर्थ से नहीं। "el problema" (पुल्लिंग) और "la mano" (स्त्रीलिंग) में भी यही होता है।

Learn the article as part of the word

When you learn a new noun, always learn it with its article: la casa, el día, la mano. This saves you from ever having to guess later, and it makes correct speech automatic from the start.

नई संज्ञा सीखते समय हमेशा उसके लेख से साथ सीखें: la casa, el día, la mano। इससे बाद में अनुमान लगाने की ज़रूरत नहीं पड़ती, और सही बोलना शुरू से स्वाभाविक हो जाता है।
